Critique by DisturbingMachine Feb 12, 2013, 11:07:54 AM
Not too sure how good my critique will be since this is only my third and I've only done them on literature but I hope it meets good standards.

Vision: 5 stars. This piece is hauntingly beautiful and creepy in many ways. The way the woman is bound to the tree and the ground is wonderfully done and the many branches with the eyeballs that follow my mouse around just give me this chill running down my spine. Perfection.

Originality: 5 stars. I must admit I have never seen this done before in my life and it is amazing.

Technique: 5 stars. The way it is drawn and colored really adds to that eerie yet smooth feel of the piece. The way the eyeballs move feels smooth, like water.

Impact: 5 stars. An amazing, original piece that is wonderfully done.

I love this piece and I hope my critique is good.

Wow I just realized the eyes move! The idea is magnificent and I believe you were capable of portraying a very unsettling feeling with the eye interactivity. However, I will just say that the effect is slightly lost due to the shadows moving in conjunction with the eyes. As a fellow Flash user, I would recommend that you made the eyes themselves shadowless while keeping the original programming on them so they still move. Then, layer a graphic representation of the shadows and highlights (anything with an alpha gradient that simulates it will do) on top of the eyes. That way, the eyes will still move while leaving the shadows and highlights stay in place for a much nicer look. Just a technique recommendation or course, but such a nice idea deserves the little extra work.
